Tom Jagot and Jay Ghelani were the stars of the show for Burwell & Exning as they clinched a 49-run win over Copdock & Old Ipswichian in the Read Brothers Ltd East Anglian Premier League.

Burwell & Exning were put in to bat, and Jagot continued his fine form.

The opener was the anchor of the innings, making 105, including 14 fours, before being the seventh wicket to fall. Anthony Moor smashed 54 and Sam Rippington’s 37, off 33, saw them reach 281 all out. Cameron Valente finished with four for 48.

Ghelani then took over in Copdock & Old Ipswichian’s reply.

He stripped out the middle order to finish with five for 61 from 18 overs.

It led to Copdock & Old Ipswichian being bowled out for 232, giving Burwell & Exning a first win after three successive draws.

Nikhil Gorantla and Mihir Chandraker dug deep to frustrate Cambridge as they were held to a draw by Saffron Walden.

There were three half-century makers for Cambridge, with Dougie Rice hitting 60, Daminda Ranaweera scoring 56 and Johnny Atkinson making 53 as Cambridge got 302 for 8.

Cambridge were going well in reply, with Henry Campbell (three for 42) and Zaman Akhter (three for 35) helping reduce Walden to 90 for 7.

But Gorantla made 43 not out from 109 balls and Chandraker struck 21 off 105 as Walden reached 159 for 8 to earn a draw.
