LEARN MOREKevin Diss set Cambridgeshire seniors on their way to victory over Essex at Romford Golf Club.
Having been beaten by their opponents last year at St Neots, the county side headed down the M11 eager to make amends this time round.
Gog Magog’s Diss was sent out at the top of the order and, after nearly hitting a hole-in-one on the third, never looked back to win 2&1.
Cambs’ top players were sent out first, and the points continued to roll in.
Old Nene’s Jeremy Baldwin played some steady golf to win 2&1, the same margin of success for Ely City’s Terry Ryan. And Newmarket’s John Yuill holed a 10ft putt on the 18th to earn a one up win.
Gog Magog’s Neil Hughes was beaten 6&5, but there was a 2&1 success for clubmate Allan Campbell, which included two birdies.
Bob Setchell recovered from two down with six to play to birdie the 17th and 18th to win two up, and captain Graham Goodman was four up after four holes but was pegged back to earn a half.
Despite defeats for Peter Laughlin and Ian Robinson, both 4&3, it was an overall 6½ – 3½ win as Cambridgeshire made amends for last year.
