Cambridge and Oxford Universities to continue to battle at English rugby HQ
Twickenham Stadium will be the home of the Varsity Match for the next four years after a deal was agree with the RFU.
The venue has hosted the annual clash between Cambridge and Oxford Universities men’s teams since 1921, and, after talks with the RFU, the agreement has been extended to run from 2018 to 2021.
The four years will cover some landmark years, including the 100th anniversary of the men’s Varsity Match at Twickenham, and the 150th anniversaries of both Cambridge University Rugby Union Football Club and the Oxford University Rugby Football Club.
Stephen Brown, the RFU chief executive, said: “We’re delighted to welcome back Oxford and Cambridge Universities to Twickenham for the men’s and women’s Varsity Matches.

David Searle, the Varsity Match chief executive, said: “We are excited to extend our long and proud history of hosting The Varsity Match at the home of England Rugby, Twickenham Stadium.
“As we move together into this historic period for the matches and both Oxford and Cambridge University rugby clubs, we look forward to growing and developing the event further with the RFU and our partners over the next four years and celebrating the 100th anniversary at Twickenham in 2021.”
The women’s Varsity Match moved to Twickenham in 2015, and last year saw a Light Blues double.
The men’s team earned a 20-10 win over their Dark Blue rivals, while the women’s team secured a 24-0 success.
The 2018 Varsity Match will be held at Twickenham on Thursday, December 6.
