Histon’s new signings Miles Smith and Efriam Romanos help to end wait for first league point of new season
After four failed attempts, Histon picked up their first point of the new United Counties Football League Premier Division South season on Saturday.
The Stutes made the journey to Cogenhoe United on the back of five straight defeats in all competitions, having also exited the Emirates FA Cup at the hands of higher-level Ipswich Wanderers.
However, Lance Key’s men are now off the mark following their 1-1 draw in west Northamptonshire.
Following a goal-less first half it was Histon that broke the deadlock in the 58th minute through centre-back Max York, who controlled the ball with his chest on the edge of the box and then hammered a shot into the roof of the Cogenhoe net.
However, with 11 minutes remaining the visitors were pegged back by Dylan Jay Wilson, who got in behind the Histon defence and then got the better of Sam Roach with his finish.
In the closing stages Histon were close to regaining the lead through midfielder Bubba Camara with a chipped effort that hit the crossbar.
Prior to the game, Histon boss Key made a couple of new additions to his squad in the shape of Miles Smith and Efriam Romanos.
Full-back Smith, who has had a couple of short previous spells at Bridge Road, spent last season in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division with Mildenhall Town.
Meanwhile, midfielder Romanos has joined on dual registration terms from Step 3 side Royston Town.
Histon head to Great Yarmouth Town in the FA Vase on Saturday (August 26) before returning to league action at home versus Yaxley on Monday (August 28).
