Stutes make most of Christmas period

Histon enjoyed back-to-back wins in the Thurlow Nunn League, Premier Division over the Christmas weekend.

They started proceedings with a 2-0 victory over FC Clacton on Saturday, with Ed Rolph and Shuan Jenkins on target.

And they went even better on Boxing Day, with a 6-0 victory at Ely City.

Captain Max York headed in the Stutes’ opening goal.

Rolph made it 2-0 before half time, finishing off Lee Smith’s through ball.

The floodgates opened in the second half, with Rolph glancing in York’s long throw for the third.

Jenkins made it 4-0 with a 30-yard effort and substitute James Carman got the fifth with his first touch.

And the match finished as it started, with York getting his second of the game with a diving header.

Histon are next in action on Saturday, when they travel to Fakenham Town, kick off 3pm.

The two wins have helped Histon close the gap on those above them in the table.

They now sit 10th with 43 points, but are only four points off fifth place.

The Stutes’ target, however, is third place Stowmarket, who are currently 12 points away.

Saturday’s opponents, Fakenham, are third from bottom.
