Cambridge United Women aiming to get better of Norwich City Women in Vitality Women's FA Cup this weekend

Manager Darren Marjoram is hoping his Cambridge United Women’s side will be able to implement some learned lessons when they travel to face their Norwich City counterparts in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup on Sunday (October 23).

When the teams met on the opening day of the new FA Women’s National League Division One South East season in August it was the Canaries who came out on top 4-1 at the Abbey Stadium.

Marjoram felt that he got some tactical parts of that game wrong on that occasion and he is keen to right those wrongs as his players go in search of a place in the first round proper.

He said: “We’ve improved since that game and it’s probably fair to say they have as well. It’s going to be an interesting game in that respect.

“Pre-season is not always a great gauge of where you’re at but I felt our process was getting there despite missing some players.

“But I misjudged where we were at in terms of style of play and how we look to build up.

“We’re in a much better place now as a group and people are more sure of their roles within the team.

“The fact that they’re at home and because of the result earlier in the season they are probably favourites but I think it’s a result that could go either way.

“Whoever wins has got a chance to go on a nice little run in the competition and that’s something we targeted at the start of the season.”

In the league United have opened up with two wins, two draws and three defeats to sit sixth.

With a number of new signings taking time to gel it is the sort of inconsistency Marjoram anticipated, but he believes things are starting to click.

“The process is getting better all the time,” he added. “It was also going to take some time for the new players to get used to how we want to play.

“We’re starting to iron our the errors, players are understanding what they can and can’t do in certain areas of the pitch and I feel like we’ll be ready to really attack the second half of the season.”

Elsewhere, Cambridge City Ladies will travel to Colney Heath in the FA Cup.
