Cambridge United appoint Nick Tyler-Hicks from Millwall as new head of recruitment

An off-season of incomings at Cambridge United has started with confirmation that Nick Tyler-Hicks has been appointed the club’s new head of recruitment.

As well as an anticipated large number of new players signing over the coming weeks, it is expected that the U’s will also be welcoming some fresh additions off the pitch during that time.

And that process is now under way following the arrival of Tyler-Hicks, who has joined from Championship club Millwall, where he previously worked alongside U’s boss Neil Harris.

Having started out at Histon FC as a performance analyst, Tyler-Hicks joined Millwall as a performance analysis intern, which turned into a full-time job, initially as head of academy analysis before becoming first-team recruitment analyst.

He held this role for five years prior to moving to Stoke City as their recruitment data analyst, but in 2022 he returned to Millwall as head of recruitment analytics.

Cambridge’s director of football, Mark Bonner, said: “It’s excellent news that we have Nick joining us to be our first head of recruitment in recent years, as we build a modern department that will grow in its use of data and analytics to inform our work.

“His performance throughout the selection process was outstanding and from a strong pool of applicants, I believe we have made an exciting addition to the club.

“Nick will begin to develop a club intelligence platform that lives beyond any individual and creates a modern and intellectual means by which all recruitment data, profiles, records and reporting is held.

“We will look to expand our network and reach and develop a department that benefits the club in the medium and long term. In the short term, we will all pull together as we aim to re-build the squad ahead of the new season.”

Tyler-Hicks added: “I am delighted to be joining Cambridge United as head of recruitment and to build on the excellent work that has been done behind-the-scenes at the club in recent years.

“The opportunity to work alongside Neil – who I know well – and Mark, to help develop the data, recruitment and analytics side of the club was of great interest and I look forward to getting to work.”
