Cambridge United attacker Sullay Kaikai out for ‘10 weeks’ with calf injury suffered against Leyton Orient

The new year has not provided Cambridge United with better luck on the injury front.

U’s boss Garry Monk has had to contend with all manner of fitness issues throughout the course of the campaign, with many of the sidelined players spending significant amounts of time on the treatment table.

And Sullay Kaikai has now joined the list after he limped with a calf problem during the recent 2-0 defeat at Leyton Orient.

A subsequent scan has confirmed the extent of the damage, with the 29-year-old set to be absent for around ‘10 weeks’.

“It’s another injury. He’s had a scan and it’s not a good scan. I think it’s been diagnosed at about 10 weeks,” said head coach Garry Monk, who was speaking after today’s 3-1 home to loss to Reading.

“It’s been the story of the season with the squad and how stretched we are. We’re asking them to go again and again and again, but that’s the remit. We’re trying to maintain the spirit.”

Kaikai has scored three goals from his 17 League One appearances this season.
