Cambridge United head coach Neil Harris provides positive fitness updates on Sullay Kaikai and Dom Ball ahead of League Two fixture at Shrewsbury Town

Cambridge United head coach Neil Harris was able to provide a positive injury update during his press duties ahead of this weekend’s trip to Shrewsbury Town.

After missing last Saturday’s 3-1 win over Crawley Town and the midweek triumph over Luton Town with a groin problem, Sullay Kaikai has returned to training and looks set to be available for the upcoming League Two clash at Croud Meadow.

Meanwhile, Dom Ball’s long-standing knee complaint is also not expected to keep him sidelined for too long and should he not make the journey to Shropshire, the experienced midfielder would then be targeting a return for the visit of Bromley on 18 October.

On managing Ball’s workload, Harris said: “Dom saw a specialist and he’s in a lot healthier position then we thought he could be.

“Whether this weekend comes too soon we’re not sure, but he’s doing really well. If it’s not this Saturday then it will certainly be next Saturday.

“Dom is on the cusp of learning what his next step is body-wise. He’s been involved in every training session, he’s played in every game, every pre-season game and this is just a reminder for all of us to make sure we get his loading pattern right for the week.

“Maybe he won’t be at 100 per cent of the sessions because that’s what he does. He’s full tilt, he trains like he plays, which is the way I like it, but sometimes you have to respect your body and if it’s going to be like that we might have to be a littler smarter.

“Maybe he does a slightly shorter session or his misses a session to make sure he’s at full tilt on a Saturday.”

Meanwhile, Louis Appere is having a re-scan this afternoon on his hamstring injury and providing that is all clear, the striker will return to full training next week.

As for Ben Knight, he is suffering with a slight groin strain after being replaced at half-time against Luton.

The former Manchester City playmaker looks set to miss out this weekend, but could be back involved in time to face Bromley.
