Cambridge United head coach Garry Monk banned from touchline for Wigan Athletic clash after accepting misconduct charge for Rotherham United conduct

Cambridge United head coach Garry Monk has been handed a one-match touchline ban.

The suspension is in relation to Monk’s alleged conduct after the final whistle of United’s 1-0 defeat to Rotherham United on October 1.

Monk was red carded by referee Darren Drysdale, with the boss subsequently being charged by the Football Association with ‘acting in an improper manner and/or confrontational manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words towards a match official’.

The 45-year-old, who has also been fined £1,000, has accepted the charge and will therefore not be in the dugout when Wigan Athletic visit the Cledara Abbey Stadium on 19 October.

The clash against the Latics will provide the U’s with their latest chance to get off the mark this season.

Monk’s side have won none of their 12 matches in all competitions this term – a run that stretches to 18 games when factoring the back-end of the previous campaign.

By chance, the last team United beat was Wigan when the teams met on 1 April.
