Cambridge United waiting on news of James Gibbons’ knee injury after he limped off in first half of 6-1 defeat at Peterborough United
Cambridge United are bracing themselves for some more bad injury news after James Gibbons was forced off during the first half of today’s 6-1 hammering at Peterborough United.
The defender appeared to pick up a knee problem while trying to prevent Ricky-Jade Jones from giving hosting Posh the lead at London Road.
And despite receiving treatment from Cambridge’s medical team, the 26-year-old was unable to continue and was replaced by Zeno Ibsen Rossi in the 31st minute.
Gibbons will now undergo a scan to determine the extent of the damage, with head coach Garry Monk not expecting positive news.
He said: “His knee doesn’t look good. I don’t know the extent of it but it doesn’t look good.
”Gibbo has been excellent and you could see in the first 20 minutes that this type of game suits him.
“He rolls his sleeves up and gives us another dynamic in that backline.
“Hopefully it’s not going to be too serious but it doesn’t look good at this moment in time.”
Captain Michael Morrison added: “It looks like a serious one with his knee. As a friend you worry about him now as well after the game and we hope that he’s going to be ok.”
Cambridge were without the likes of Paul Digby, Mamadou Jobe, George Thomas, Gary Gardner, Josh Stokes, Shayne Lavery and Taylor Richards due to injuries this afternoon.
