Cambridge United midfielder Korey Smith to miss next ‘six to 10 weeks’ with knee injury picked up in Bolton Wanderers build up
Cambridge United midfielder Korey Smith has been ruled out for the next ‘six to 10 weeks’ with a knee injury.
The 33-year-old suffered the problem in the final training session before last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Bolton Wanderers.
And a subsequent scan has shown some ligament damage, with Smith now unlikely to be available for selection again until March.
United head coach Garry Monk said: “We sent Korey for a scan and typically it’s not a good scan.
“There’s a little tweak in the ligaments around his knee. It was such an innocuous thing in training where there’s no-one around him, he’s jumped and landed awkwardly.
“We’re probably looking around anywhere between a six to 10-week period so it’s obviously not a short-term one.
“It’s in that range again, which we seem to have ended up with quite a few of them. It’s a blow for us but I’ve had to say it quite a few times this season, it is what it is and we’ve got to focus on what we can do and who is available.”
Smith, who joined the U’s from Derby County in the summer, has scored one goal in his 23 League One appearances this season.
