Cambridge United reject offer for reported Plymouth Argyle transfer target Harvey Knibbs

Cambridge United have rejected an offer for attacker Harvey Knibbs.

The 23-year-old, who is out of contract at the Abbey Stadium at the end of the season, has reportedly been the subject of interest from fellow Sky Bet League One side Plymouth Argyle this month.

And while United head coach Mark Bonner did not want to be drawn on the identity of the bidding club, he has confirmed that the U’s have rebuffed a proposal for Knibbs.

“I don’t want to talk about other clubs but we have rejected a bid for Harvey, like we did in the summer, like we did for Sam Smith in the summer as well,” said Bonner.

“We’re certainly not in a position where we want to be moving players on, regardless of the fact you could argue the economics of it with players in the last few months of their contracts might be right.

“From the owners all the way through we’re very, very committed to keeping the squad together the best we can unless it becomes ridiculous.

“The support of the owners is massive, it was the same in the summer. Our aim in the summer was to keep the squad together (and) our aim this window is to keep the squad together and add to it.

“Harvey is one that we think is having a good season and we certainly don’t want to lose him.

“We’re not welcoming any offers on any of our players. We want to keep this squad together and build on it between now and the end of the season.”

Knibbs has scored four goals from his 31 appearances in all competitions this campaign.
