Cambridge United captain Michael Morrison signs new one-year contract at Cledara Abbey Stadium
Skipper Michael Morrison has signed a new one-year contract with Cambridge United.
The club captain’s previous deal with the U’s had been due to expire at the end of next month.
However, the 37-year-old has now agreed to remain with the club for a further 12 months.
Morrison started his professional career at United in 2005 and made 122 appearances in his first spell with the club before going on to play for the likes of Charlton Athletic, Reading, Leicester City and Birmingham City.
He rejoined his boyhood club in January 2023 and has gone on to feature on a further 103 occasions for Cambridge.
Morrison said: “Once I had spoken to Neil (Harris, head coach) and Mark (Bonner, director of football) and they wanted to offer me a contract I was really pleased, because I obviously wanted to stay, and I am delighted to extend it for another year.
“I love playing and I love playing for Cambridge. I feel good and feel like I can keep putting good performances on the pitch.”
Neil Harris added: “I am delighted that Michael has decided to stay at the football club with us. He is an integral part of our squad rebuild.
“His leadership qualities, as well as his performances on the pitch during my 15 games in charge were very impressive, and I look forward to working with him over the course of the next season.”
The club remains in discussions with Liam Bennett and Sullay Kaikai over new contracts.
