Cambridge United trio Ryan Loft, Gary Gardner and Jordan Cousins set to miss season opener at Stockport County with knocks
Cambridge United’s new signings Ryan Loft and Gary Gardner – along with Jordan Cousins – have all ‘picked up knocks’ and are set to miss the Sky Bet League One season opener at Stockport County on 10 August.
Neither striker Loft nor attacking midfielder Gardner have featured for the U’s in pre-season, while Cousins has been part of squads for earlier friendlies.
However, the trio are now set for an unspecified spell on the sidelines with injuries.
Speaking after tonight’s 1-0 friendly victory over West Bromwich Albion this evening, head coach Garry Monk said: “Lofty, Gary Gardner and Jordan Cousins have unfortunately picked up knocks.
“They’re set back a little bit – how long that will be we don’t know. It could be a couple of weeks which isn’t helpful.”
In more positive news, Monk confirmed that loanee midfielder Taylor Richards is set to get his first minutes of the summer during tomorrow’s friendly against Colchester United at St Neots Town FC.
