Cambridge United v Rotherham United: Cledara Abbey Stadium pitch passes inspection as League One fixture is given the go ahead
The Cledara Abbey Stadium playing surface has passed a pitch inspection ahead of Cambridge United’s home League One encounter against Rotherham United this evening.
The persistent rain throughout the course of the day had prompted the club to call for a check – to be carried out by an EFL official – of the pitch at 5pm.
And the encounter, which is due to get under way at 7.45pm, has been given the go ahead.
For the hosting U’s, the visit of the Millers is another opportunity to pick up their first victory of the 2024/25 season.
Garry Monk’s men last won on 1 April in a 3-1 triumph at the expense of Wigan Athletic – a run that dates back 16 games and 183 days.
Visiting Rotherham, meanwhile, will be looking to end a lengthy wait for an away victory which stretches all the way back to 8 November 2022 – seven days short of 700.
With one point to their name, Cambridge are bottom of the League One standings while Rotherham are six points better off in 19th position.
Speaking yesterday, United boss Garry Monk spoke of his desperation to give the fanbase ‘something to cheer about’.
However, they will be without young playmaker Dan Barton after he was ruled out for up to 10 weeks with a knee injury.
