Cambridge United injury update: Jordan Cousins and Ryan Loft sidelined for ‘few weeks’ while Paul Digby recovers to travel to Stockport County

Cambridge United will have to make do without the services of Jordan Cousins and summer signing Ryan Loft for a ‘few weeks’.

Head coach Garry Monk revealed earlier this month that the duo – along with new addition Gary Gardner – were highly unlikely to feature in Saturday’s Sky Bet League One season opener at Stockport County.

But while Gardner is set to return to training at the start of next week, Cousins (hamstring) and Loft (ankle) have been sidelined by injuries that they picked up during the club’s open day event in late July.

Monk said: “They’re a few weeks away from regaining fitness. Timeframes on it are probably anything from two weeks to four weeks.

“We know the injury, but it will be a case of how they build up once they’ve got back on the grass – hopefully without any setbacks.”

In more positive news, Monk confirmed that midfielder Paul Digby is set to travel to Edgeley Park this weekend.

The 29-year-old limped off during last weekend’s pre-season friendly against Colchester United, but he has since received positive scan results and returned to training.

“He’s been back out training. Diggers is fine, he’s available for selection so that’s good,” added Monk.

“It was more precautionary when he came off. He felt a little bit of tightness but thankfully he’s had a scan and that’s all clear.”

Monk also revealed that youngster George Hoddle’s game-time this summer has been limited by injury, although he is scheduled to return to training at some stage next week.
