Cambridge United’s League One trip to Blackpool postponed because of frozen Bloomfield Road pitch
Cambridge United’s trip to Blackpool this afternoon has been called off because of a frozen pitch.
A PGMOL official attended Bloomfield Road at 8.30am to assess the playing surface amid the freezing conditions that have already seen a number of matches postponed up and down the country this weekend.
And United’s League One encounter has gone the same way, with Blackpool writing in a short statement: “Today's fixture against Cambridge United has been postponed following a pitch inspection by a PGMOL Match official.
“Despite the best efforts of the grounds team, who stayed overnight to work on the pitch with lighting rigs, the pitch has been deemed unplayable.
“Details on a revised date for the fixture and ticket information will be announced in due course.”
As it stands, of the eight scheduled League One encounters due to take place today, only Rotherham United v Bolton Wanderers and Burton Albion’s trip to Stevenage remain on.
Should Burton win at the Lamex Stadium, Cambridge will drop to the bottom of the table on goal difference.
