Winger a key cog in U's machine
Versatile Piero Mingoia earns praise at Cambridge United
Piero Mingoia’s role at Cambridge United has been praised by manager Shaun Derry.
Given the sparsity of right-backs last week, the 25-year-old was asked to take on the role of right wing-back against Plymouth Argyle.
And he did not look out of place, putting in an accomplished performance in both attack and defence.
“I thought Piero gave a top performance last week,” said U’s boss Derry.
“We asked him to do a job for the team in a different position to what he has been used to and I think that just highlights what kind of character he is, and just him absolutely dying for the shirt.
“That’s why I love having him, not just on a match day but in and around the training ground. He is a great lad and he is full of ability as well.
“When you’ve got that blend, that’s why he has been a really good signing for us.”
He added: “Over the next four or five games until that point arrives when we’ve got our full-backs back in the building then we’re going to be asking people to put in a shift for the team, and Piero sure did that last weekend.”
