Winter comforts on the Cam for Cantabrigian

By CambridgeIndependent Reporter

Good start to new league season

Cantabrigian Rowing Club made the perfect start to the Winter League on the River Cam.

In the first of three legs, the women’s first eight of Jessie Spivey, Ellie Darlington, Andrea De Bruin, Emma Dalrymple, Anita Holender, Hannah Stewart, Fi Macklin, Georgia Vann and cox Esther Momcilovic were seventh overall and the fastest women’s crew.

That was despite Momcilovic having to execute a difficult double overtake of two men’s eights under the railway bridge.

Cantabs had the top two spots in the women’s races, while the third fastest women’s crew were the girls’ J18 scull of Bex Hawthorne, Eva Hill, Ellen Goode and Tabitha Thornton-Swan.

The J16 scull led their event while Cantabs’ junior girls’ squad’s first boat were the fastest women’s novice eight, by more than 30 seconds.

The men’s novice eight was won by Cantabs’ Hills Road boys’ B crew, while there was victory in the single sculls for Jimmy Adams, who then teamed up with women’s fastest single sculler Georgie Plunkett to win the M2x event.

Cantabs’ first men’s eight were having their second outing as a crew and they were quickest in their division, and third overall.

Cantabs’ women’s eights are racing at Quintin Eights Head this Saturday in London.
