Cambridge City Hockey Club’s women’s teams rack up the goals during victories.

Cambridge City Hockey Club’s women’s sides chalked up four victories during a positive weekend that yielded an impressive return of 14 goals.

It was a young and inexperienced first team that delivered the goods in the England Hockey Vitality Women’s Conference Midlands clash at home against Oxford University.

Holly Dean (2), Jess Tuff and Evie Younger were all on target during the 4-1 victory, which marked debuts for Abbey Holdstock and Ciara Comley alongside Millie Ely’s second appearance for the team.

Meanwhile, in the East Women’s League Premier Division, Cambridge City II ran out 3-0 winners at home against City of Peterborough.

Emily Barker got the ball rolling for City with the game’s opening goal, followed by further strikes from Ciara Comley and Lucy Pendleton.

In the same division, Cambridge City III showed good powers of recovery to triumph 3-1 over visiting Upminster.

City found themselves a goal behind after just two minutes, but the home side were level before the break courtesy of captain Becki Wadsworth.

Tamsin Loose fired the home team in front for the first time early in the second half, with the scoring being completed late on by skipper Wadsworth.

In the East Women’s League Division 2 North West, Cambridge City V cruised to a 4-0 home victory at the expense of Pelicans.

City made a dream start thanks to Abbey Cotton’s goal inside the opening seconds of the contest.

Anna Nicholson, who was the provider for the opening goal, turned scorer soon after and by the 16th minute Sarah Lambert had added a third goal.

The fourth and final goal, which saw all 11 players involved in the build up, came in the 61st minute and was scored by Imogen Tooley.

However, it was not such a positive weekend for the club’s men’s section as they suffered a combined three defeats.

There was at least something to cheer for the first team as they recorded their first point in the England Hockey Men’s Division 1 North this season courtesy of a 3-3 draw at Leeds.

Visiting City raced out of the traps and opened up a two-goal lead courtesy of captain Nat Farrant and Callum Middleton.

Hosting Leeds responded with three goals of their own and looked to be heading for a come-from-behind victory until Dilip Goyal slammed in a late equaliser for City.
