Cambridge City Hockey Club’s female teams chalk up the majority of the victories at the weekend
Cambridge City Hockey Club’s women’s teams chalked up the majority of the club’s wins last weekend, with four of the six sides coming out on top in their respective fixtures.
Cambridge City II set the tone as they ran out 3-0 winners in their East Women’s League Premier Division clash against Upminster.
Lucy Pendleton broke the deadlock with a reverse stick finish before further goals from Jess White and Emily Barker wrapped up the triumph.
The game also marked the return of Megan Higgs from long-term injury and Kara Kilbourn, who has been away travelling.
Elsewhere, a double from Becky Hayward earned Cambridge City IV a 2-1 home win at the expense of Pelicans in the East Women’s League Division 2 North East.
In the same division, Cambridge City V chalked up their first win of the season as they edged a nine-goal contest against St Neots II 5-4.
Imogen Tooley’s brace was accompanied by further goals from Steph Atkinson, Lottie Biddlecombe and Alice Dolton.
Also scoring twice was Freya Lockwood, who helped Cambridge City VI on their way to a 3-1 win against Spalding III in the East Women’s League Division 3 North West.
Dalin Li was also on target for a City side that sit second in the early-season standings.
However, it was not such a positive outing for Cambridge City in the Vitality Women’s Hockey League Division Conference Midlands as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Repton.
Holly Dean’s goal put City in the ascendancy but the hosts responded twice to take all three points.
There was further disappointment in the England Hockey League Men’s Division 1 North after Cambridge City suffered a 7-2 thrashing at home to Harborne.
City were 4-0 down at the break and shipped two more goals before the end of third quarter, while goals from Alex Drummond and Conor Annand did little to impact the scoreline.
There was brighter news in the East Men’s League Premier Division as Cambridge City II ran out 3-2 winners over their Old Loughtonians counterparts.
Goals from Larry Dalrymple and Henry Green had City level at the break before Ethan Smythe struck the decisive goal for the joint table toppers in the second half.
Meanwhile, with a combined age of 801 across the 14-strong squad – an average of 57 – Cambridge City VII put in a dogged display to win 1-0 on the road to St Neots II.
Nigel Anns’ penalty corner effort was enough for City to clinch to East Men’s League Division 4 North West encounter.
