Laura Bleehen will seal a double hat-trick of Blues when leading Cambridge University out at Twickenham to face Oxford in the Jefferies Varsity Match.

The Girton College final year medical student won three Blues in the Varsity Football Match before switching to rugby union.

She has helped the Light Blues to victory in the last two matches over the Dark Blues, including the 10-5 win under adapted laws at Leicester’s Welford Road in the summer of 2021, and will now be captaining the side.

Bleehen has a squad that features 12 returning Blues as they seek to make it five Varsity Match wins in a row.

Joining the skipper for another year are Emily Bell, Colette Russell, Tabbie Brough, Emma Jones, Millie Bushrod, Saffron Hicks, Vianney Gomezgil Yaspik, Hiide Schneemann, Hetta Friend, Rose Scowen, Lauren Gregory and, among the replacements, Cara Prowling.

Oxford captain Jess Abele has played for both sides in the Varsity Match.

She has five returning Blues in her ranks, and the Dark Blues also feature Colombia international scrum-half Estefania Ramirez.

The teams have faced each other twice this season in the BUCS Championship, with Cambridge winning the first 15-0 and Oxford claiming a 12-10 victory in the second.

The women’s Varsity Match kicks off at 12.30pm.
