Histon manager Chris Nunn hands captain’s armband back to Max York after Oliver Brookes’ exit to St Neots Town
Max York has been reinstated as Histon’s club captain.
The centre-back skippered the Stutes on numerous occasions prior to his departure for Newmarket Town in the summer of 2021.
He returned to Histon – via Eynesbury Rovers – in January 2022, since which time Oliver Brookes has worn the armband at Bridge Road.
However, Brookes recently departed for fellow Uhlsport United Counties Football League Premier Division South side St Neots, leading boss Chris Nunn to hand the responsibility back to York.
Nunn, who has also confirmed that Ryan Towner will be his new vice-captain, said: “’I’ve known Max for many years and with Ollie’s departure it was an easy decision to promote Max to club captain.
“Ryan has led by example since I came to the club both on and off the pitch. Both lads have bought into our plans going forward and I look forward to working with them.”
Meanwhile, York added: “This club has always been close to my heart and after captaining the club for five years before I am excited to return to the role, especially working under Nunny and his staff. I’m very confident we have more exciting times to come as a club.”
York is set to captain Histon tomorrow night when they took on March Town United in the quarter-finals of the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup. The club has made the game a ‘Pay What You Want’ fixture.
Nunn’s side, who saw last weekend’s game against Cogenhoe United postponed due to a frozen pitch, will return to league action on Saturday (December 9) when they entertain Lutterworth Town.
