Christmas is always a magical time at the National Trust’s Wimpole Estate, but this year it is even more special thanks to a spectacular light display.
This new offering at the estate boasts, as our pictures show, a delightful trail which lights up the garden and Wimpole Hall and features spectacular illuminations and festive tunes. The opening night was held last Friday (November 26).
Christmas at Wimpole will be open on selected dates from now until January 2. Matthew Findlay, head of UK Trails for Raymond Gubbay Ltd – which produced and promoted the event – said: “We were thrilled to see the very first Christmas at Wimpole light trail open to very excited visitors on Friday.
“It is the culmination of months of hard work with our partners, the National Trust. The night was chilly but clear and the illuminations looked spectacular around the grounds and Wimpole Estate.
“People of all ages came and enjoyed the trail, as I wandered around I could hear them commenting on which bits they liked the best – from walking through glittering hearts shimmering along to Wham!’s sing-along Christmassy hit, running beneath the tunnel of lights with thousands of fairy lights, gazing up at the neon trees rising high into the sky and, not forgetting, Father Christmas who was a hit with everyone. There are so many picture-perfect moments.”
Matthew added: “Around the market place the atmosphere was buzzing as kids and adults alike jumped on the classic fairground carousel. There are still tickets available later on in the evenings so we encourage you to book soon to avoid disappointment.”
