Thousands are enjoying the extraordinary sights of Ely Cathedral Flower Festival 2018.

Featuring 50,000 blooms, carefully arranged by volunteers from flower guilds, are on display until Sunday (June 24).

Diarmuid Gavin, the celebrity gardener, officially launched the event at an evening for invited guests on Wednesday (June 20) before the doors opened to the public on Thursday.

Eye-catching displays, musical recitals, floral demonstrations and a gift and craft marquee are among the attractions.

Roger Woolnough, who was part of the design team for Westminster Abbey’s Festival of Flowers, is the festival’s creative director. A Chelsea gold medal winner, Roger was also the mastermind behind Ely Cathedral’s acclaimed 2013 Flower Festival, ‘In the beginning’.

The theme this year is the ‘kaleidoscope of life’.

Tickets are available online, on the day from the ticket marquee and via telephone. Call Ely Cathedral box office on 01353 660349 (Mon-Sat 9.30am-4pm).
