Cambridge Buskers and Street Performers Festival to return in summer 2021
The Cambridge Buskers and Street Performers Festival is returning this summer.
The free, two-day event will run from 10am to 6pm on Saturday, July 17 and 11am to 5pm on Sunday, July 18.
For the first time, there will be a children’s corner with storytellers, as well as performances on the city centre streets.
The Cambuskers Community Group is now taking applications from street performers. Enter at https://bit.ly/3nyrJZ0 by June 12.
More information is available on the Cambuskers website cambuskers.org and Facebook page.
The Cambuskers Community Group showcased acts at the Buskers stage at Strawberry Fair from 2016 to 2019, though last year lockdown put a stop to both Strawberry Fair and the Buskers and Street Performers Festival on the streets of Cambridge.
The organisers want to encourage street performers from the Cambridgeshire area to take part in a festival that brings visitors in to the city, and say that if they are inundated with applications, priority will be given to local acts. Socially distanced measures will be in place for the event.
Heather Bevan-Hunt, festival director, said: “I’m really excited the festival is back on the streets of the city and am looking forward to the fabulous array of talent Cambridge has to offer. We hope the performances will bring a smile to people’s faces after a very difficult year.”
She added: “It’s a great opportunity for young up and coming performers to showcase their act where the street is the stage.”
The organisers thanked Cambridge BID and Pharminox Isolation Ltd for their financial support, and Cambridge City Council for guidance in staging the festival.
The first Cambridge Buskers and Street Performers Festival took place over three days in July 2008. The city council went on to run another four festivals, which increased in popularity and became a highlight of the Cambridge calendar.
Cambuskers Community Group was formed in 2014 by Heather, who has been organising the festival since it began.
