Cambridge Comedy Garden: A new comedy festival set to take place on Parker’s Piece
Cambridge Comedy Garden, a new comedy festival for the city, is bringing some of the top names in stand-up to a big top on Parker’s Piece this July.
As well as comedy, visitors can enjoy craft beer, street food and more.
Taking place over five days, the impressive line-up features the iconic Harry Hill, Last Leg star Josh Widdicombe, the award-winning Sara Pascoe, the legendary Dylan Moran, BAFTA nominee and stand-up master Simon Amstell, German comedy ambassador Henning Wehn, and the circuit’s ‘man of the moment’ and one of the most exciting newer acts around, Josh Pugh.
Other personal favourites set to appear include John Robins, Reginald D Hunter, and Rachel Fairburn.
Hannah Horan is the festival producer, she works for Fifty Seven – a London-based company specialising in live comedy.
She says: “Cambridge Comedy Garden is the latest venture in our Comedy Garden series, joining already established and loved events in Bristol, Brighton and St Albans.
“Our small production team work year round; we’ve been making events for 15 years, and we’ve been wanting to break Cambridge for a few years now! We’re so thrilled to be landing this year.”
Commenting on the top-draw quality of the line-up, Hannah continues: “As an established comedy production company, we’ve been working with lots of these comedians for many years.
“We pride ourselves on securing known and loved acts whilst showcasing the most exciting up-and-coming acts alongside them.
“I’m personally looking forward to Dara Ó Briain’s fast-talking stories, as well as seeing the likes of Jin Hao Li and Lindsey Santoro grace our festival stage for the first time.”
Will it become an annual fixture in the Cambridge calendar? “We hope we get to establish ourselves as an annual fixture in the Cambridge cultural calendar,” replies Hannah.
“As ever, we will be looking to book those who are storming the British comedy scene at the time.”
The Cambridge Comedy Garden runs from Wednesday, 17 July, to Sunday, 21 July, on Parker’s Piece. For more information, visit cambridgecomedygarden.co.uk.
