Circus show at Cambridge Junction will make you Gasp!
Circoncentrique are Italian Alessandro Maida – a finalist in the TV ?talent show Italia’s Got Talent – and Maxime Pythoud from Switzerland.
The two met at Circus School in Brussels and their show Gasp! has been delighting international audiences since its premiere in 2011.
Now Gasp! is coming to Cambridge, taking to the Junction stage on November 22 bringing to a close a nine-venue UK tour.
Gasp! is a laugh-out loud circus show where two characters try to outdo each other with increasingly extreme acts of daring.
Defying gravity and in perpetual motion, the two acrobats perform amazing tricks with balls, spheres and a huge metal wheel.
As the competition becomes more frenzied, the sense of danger increases as the two men leap higher, spin longer and faster.
Accompanied by live piano music, this is a show of extraordinary physical finesse and madcap absurd humour.
The show has received praise across Europe for its “strength and humour, agility and laughter”.
La Libre Belgique praised the show as a “poetic whirlwind” while Télérama said: “To the sound of live music, they find poetry in movement. Gasp! is an ode to the joy of life in all its simplicity.”
The performance starts with ‘Knot’, a skilful acrobatic duet performed by Nikki Rummer and Jean-Daniel Broussé – known as Nikki and JD. The duo recently guest performed with British circus sensation Barely Methodical Troupe and were finalists in the Circus Maximus competition at the Southbank’s Udderbelly. Knot follows a chance encounter between a frustrated lover and a jilted dreamer.
These performances are being presented by Crying Out Loud on behalf of Circus Evolution, which is funded by the Arts Council England Strategic Touring Programme.
Tickets cost £12.50/£8 with 15 per cent discount for a group of four.
