The twice Grammy-nominated UK R&B singer brought a terrific day of sunshine and racing to a close

In the build up to Craig David’s performance on Friday, July 20, there was a brilliant atmosphere with lots of groups of people enjoying the sunshine and the racing, but it was when the hit 7 Days came on that everyone really got going.

I’d never seen the place so full and everyone seemed to be enjoying the music, which included numerous top 10 singles from the artist’s nearly 20-year career, such as Fill Me in, Walking Away, What’s Your Flava? and Rendezvous – which was performed acoustically.

Robin S’ Show Me Love was an interesting choice of cover song and tunes originally released as collaborations – Magic (with Yxng Bane), When the Bassline Drops (with Big Narstie), Rise & Fall (with Sting) and, inevitably, Re-Rewind (The Crowd Say Bo Selecta) (with Artful Dodger) – were also wheeled out to great applause.

The outstanding 7 Days – my favourite Craig David song came just before the encore and was then followed by 16 and I Know You, yet another duet, this time with indie pop band Bastille.

The only negative I’d have to say is that it was over far too quickly, but I think that’s just because I didn’t want the night to end!
