Doh! Can you find all of the village scarecrows as Witchford Scarecrow Hunt returns?
The Witchford Scarecrow Hunt is back – and the theme for 2024 is television shows.
Villagers have been busy making scarecrows of their favourite TV characters and placing them outside their homes for visitors to enjoy.
Launched on Saturday (25 May) and running until tomorrow (Friday, 31 May), the hunt features 16 widely-scattered scarecrows.
Scarecrow hunters fill in guess forms, which they can pick up from the offices of Platinum Properties on Lancaster Way Business Park, or download from the Witchford Scarecrow Hunt Facebook page, and can vote on their favourites – with the most popular set to be awarded a plaque.
Maria Morgan-Geen, with her work colleague Abigail Dove and others, took over the running of the event this year from hunt founder Shelley Davies.
She said: “Shelley used to run it as part of owning the post office in the village, and it was a really successful event. Shelley retired not long ago and so passed the baton over.
“I own and run Platinum Properties and I live in the village myself, so it seemed like an obvious choice for us.”
Maria cites a scarecrow from a certain American animated series as her personal favourite.
“Homer Simpson wins hands-down for me so far – he’s excellent,” she said.
“It is a much-loved event in the village, and we’ve had a lot of feedback that people are glad that we’ve carried it on. It brings the community together.”
