Eboracum Baroque returns this Christmas with Handel’s Messiah by candlelight
Cambridge-based group Eboracum Baroque, which has been featured on BBC Radio 3, will be performing Handel’s Messiah by candlelight on Saturday, December 18 at Great St Mary’s Church.
The concert, in aid of Cancer Research UK, will be performed on period instruments with just 11 singers who act as both the choir and the soloists. Eboracum’s new recording of the Messiah will also be available to purchase at the performance.
Originally composed in 1742, the Messiah is now one of the most performed works of classical music of all time across the world. The concert at Great St Mary’s - where there are accounts of Handel’s oratorios being performed in the 18th century, including the Messiah - starts at 7pm and finishes at 9.30pm.
