Folk legends Fairport Convention heading to Cambridge
Following the huge success of their annual Cropredy Convention in the Oxfordshire countryside, pioneering British folk rockers Fairport Convention are to undertake an autumn tour.
This year, the band that launched British folk-rock celebrates 57 years in business. While Fairport Convention has seen many changes over the years, one thing has remained the same – their passion for performance.
The current line-up features Simon Nicol on guitar and vocals, Dave Pegg on bass guitar and vocals, Ric Sanders on violin, and Chris Leslie on bouzouki, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, and vocals.
As these four men continue to carry on the Fairport baton, they have proven to be the band’s most consistent and long-lasting line-up - 28 years.
Fairport Convention have won a BBC Lifetime Achievement Award, and Radio 2 listeners voted their ground-breaking album Liege & Lieg ‘The Most Influential Folk Album of All Time’.
Their story has been celebrated with television documentaries on BBC Four and Sky Arts.
Fairport Convention's autumn tour runs from 15 October to 10 November, with some shows already sold out. They will be appearing at the Cambridge Junction (J1) on Thursday, 24 October.
Tickets, priced £32, are available from junction.co.uk. For more on the band, go to fairportconvention.com.
