Gabriella’s It’s Not Called Anything pop-up event raises £1,600 for charity

It’s Not Called Anything (INCA), a pop-up event aimed at helping young people and raising funds for charity, took place in an empty shop space in Cambridge’s Lion Yard.

Gabriella Robinson, a 19-year-old girl from Cambridgeshire, was behind the event on Saturday, July 15, which was held to raise funds following the recent death, at just 17, of Gabriella’s childhood friend Maggie.

Maggie bravely fought alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma and, prior to her death, Gabriella was raising money for Maggie’s treatment.

More than £1,600 was raised on the day, which will go to Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People – a hospice that served Maggie and her family so well – and to the Margaret Adcock Foundation, which her parents are starting in her name to support underprivileged children in the Philippines. Maggie was half-Filipino, as is Gabriella.

The event also served as the launch of Gabriella’s social network platform for young creative people across Cambridgeshire and beyond. She has been working on the project for the last six months.

Gabriella said: “It was such a successful day. It was just incredible the support I had. Running up to the event I was struggling – lots of people were busy, part-time jobs and stuff – but on the day loads of people came together to help me out and cover all the areas.

“There were several sections to my event. There was a bake sale, which was raising money for charity, as well as a thrift area which was full of donated clothes from the Cancer Research charity shop.

“I had gone through their stock and volunteered with them a couple of days, to help them with their store but to also source stock.

“Everyone that participated in selling donated clothes as well, as well as other friends, so the thrift area also contributed to raising a lot of money for Maggie, which was amazing.”

Gabriella added that CJ’s Vintage Store also donated clothing, as did a couple of other shops in the city.
