Go on a virtual, state-of-the-art sleigh ride at Cambridge’s Grand Arcade
The Grand Arcade has unveiled its Christmas decorations, though sadly the Christmas lights switch-on ceremonies that were due to take place in the station area and in the market square had to be cancelled by Cambridge BID after Cambridgeshire was declared an Enhanced Response Area for Covid-19 by the government amid significant infection rates.
But there is still plenty of festive cheer to be had at the city’s shopping centres, where lights, decorations and family attractions have been unveiled. If your children have ever dreamt of taking a ride on Santa’s sleigh, then a state-of-the-art virtual reality ride on the first floor of the Grand Arcade will be just their thing.
The Magical Sleigh Ride, beside The White Company shop, seats up to eight and, with high definition headsets, transports you on a flight through starlit skies. Tilting forwards, backwards and side-to-side and fitted with fans and surround sound, the sleigh offers a fully immersive, 360-degree, 4D experience.
Julie Kervadec, the centre’s marketing manager, says: “By mixing traditional Christmas décor with virtual reality technology, we will offer a fully immersive experience that will make your visit with us truly
magical. But hold onto your hats and antlers everyone, this could be a bumpy ride!”
Individual tickets cost £5, family tickets (for four) cost £16. Headsets will be carefully sanitised between each ride and slots can be booked at grandarcade.co.uk to avoid queues.
