‘Good musicianship and good music’ as Cambridge Rock Festival celebrates 20th anniversary

The Cambridge Rock Festival marked its 20th anniversary as it was held for the first time at Harlocks Farm, next to Ben’s Yard in Stuntney, from Thursday to Sunday (1-4 August).

The line-up included FM, Split Whiskers, Burnt Out Wreck, Willie and the Bandits, Stray, and Cambridge hard rockers Hollowstar.

Emma Thomas, the festival’s head steward, said: “We got lots of good feedback from both the artists and the festival-goers.

“The weather was brilliant and all the rainstorms that were forecast didn’t materialise on us.”

Asked which of the bands went down particularly well, Emma said: “John Otway is always a favourite. I think perhaps he has done the same show for about the last 15 years, but always manages to entertain.

“We had FM, who have been around for many years. We had Eddie and the Hot Rods – they played our very first festival in 2004, and played again on Sunday night.

“So it was a good mix – one of the things we like with the Cambridge Rock Festival is good musicianship and good music, and I think we succeeded really well this year.”
