The crowds joined the mayor of Cambridge, Cllr Mark Ashton, and his wife, mayoress Barbara Ashton, at this year’s Big Weekend & Mela.
The organisers estimate that approximately 20,000 people attended across the weekend (July 1-3).
James Page, marketing and communications manager for the event at Cambridge City Council, said: “The Big Weekend has been a huge success; its return this summer welcomed by thousands who visited Parker’s Piece across the three days.
“People poured onto the Big Weekend site for Friday’s fireworks and big names, S Club Party and Heather Small, the best of local bands on Saturday along with headliner The Hoosiers, and major stars at Sunday’s Mela, including Panjabi MC and Apache Indian.
“An incredible array of music and entertainment was enjoyed at the community event, organised by Cambridge City Council. Saturday saw plenty of digital activity in the Gaming Hub, children enjoying the world of science in Cambridge Festival’s fun lab and lots of creative activities in the art tent and University of Cambridge Museums make and create tents.”
