In pictures: Duxford Soapbox Derby celebrates 10th anniversary
There were carts and costumes of all kinds in Duxford last Sunday (September 3) as the popular Soapbox Derby celebrated its 10th anniversary.
Held every year since 2013 – apart from 2020 and 2021 – the popular event was started in memory of Duxford resident Phill Hill and raises money for Cancer Research UK.
This year’s adult’s race was won by Nic Hill and Scott Linsdell, competing as ‘Phill Hill’s Army’.
Andy Yates, chair of the Duxford Soapbox Derby committee, said: “There’s a particularly poignant link here, because Nic is Phill’s son and the race is run in memory of Phill, who passed away of cancer 10 years ago.
“Not only is it the 10th anniversary, but to see his son actually win the event is absolutely huge, and to see him celebrating with his wife and child, and with his mother as well, was amazing.”
In other categories, the age 4-7 race was won by Grace Collins and Erin Collins (Princess Power), the 8-11 race by Team Olympus (Sam Pryke and Jacob Pryke), and Flying Tornados, comprising members of the local Air Cadets, won the 12-15 race.
Andy added that the mayor of Duxford fancy dress award was won by The Rocket Boys – Theo Harris and Remy Sethi.
Following the fun and games, there will be a cheque presentation to Cancer Research UK at The Plough pub in Duxford on the evening of Wednesday, October 4.
