In pictures: ‘Hilarious’ Cambridgeshire scarecrow festival shows real imagination

The days of all scarecrows looking like Worzel Gummidge are long gone, as our pictures of this year’s Haslingfield Scarecrow Festival show.

Held over the weekend (September 23-25), the theme this year was ‘looking on the bright side/silver lining, or anything else you choose’. One of the three organisers described the event as “hilarious”. She said: “It’s the 10th Scarecrow Festival and we do them every other year.”

The festival took its time to gain traction, but now it has really taken off. “They’re so original, they’re so funny,” said the organiser of the imaginative creations that can be seen all over the village, adding that “hundreds and hundreds” of people come to see them.
