In pictures: Hundreds go the extra mile at Alzheimer’s Society’s Cambridge Memory Walk
A sea of blue washed over Jesus Green in Cambridge last Saturday (14 September) as hundreds of fundraisers walked to help end the devastation caused by dementia, as part of the Alzheimer’s Society’s Cambridge Memory Walk.
More than 350 participants came together to complete either a short 2km stroll around the park, or a longer 6.5km route, which took people further along the riverside and around the parks.
Judith King, Alzheimer’s Society’s head of services, said: “Memory Walk is such a special event in our calendar, bringing people together to walk in memory or in celebration of loved ones.
“We are in awe of our incredible fundraisers and thank all those who took part in Cambridge, as every step and pound raised will make a huge difference to the lives of people living with dementia.
“Alzheimer’s Society is here for everyone affected by dementia through our support services which people tell us are a lifeline.
“From a listening ear on the phone to a visit in person and opportunities to connect with others, we’ll be there for you again and again and again, no matter what.”
There are around one million people living with dementia in the UK, including more than 100,000 people across the East of England.
There is still time to organise your own Memory Walk throughout September, or to find out more about taking part in an Alzheimer’s Society walk next year, visit alzheimers.org.uk/memorywalk.
