In pictures: Music, magic and more as Reach Fair returns

There was another impressive turnout as the 2025 edition of the Reach Fair took place on Bank Holiday Monday (5 May).

This traditional fair has taken place in Reach every year since 1201, when King John granted a charter.

It was originally held on Rogation Monday but since 1979, it has been held on the early May bank holiday.

According to original custom, it was once again opened by the mayor of Cambridge, Cllr Baiju Thittala, accompanied by the aldermen in full regalia, and pennies were thrown into the crowd.

Alex de Giorgio-Miller, one of the fair’s four directors, said: “We had a lovely time, the weather held for us, and we changed it up a little bit this year by having some more community groups performing for us on the stage, and I think they were well received.

“We had the Synergy Majorettes and a ceroc rock-dance group, as well as the normal PWL (Performance Without Limits), which is the local dance group for children.

“Graham Buxton was great on the main stage, and JezO was fantastic as always with his magic show and compering for us. It was busy and everyone had a lovely time.”

The popular Reach Ride, which cyclists have previously joined to get to the fair, didn’t happen this year as organiser Camcycle is refocusing on its campaigning activities.

Instead, it encouraged people to ride independently to the event.
