It rained, rained and then rained some more. However, this didn’t wash away the enthusiasm of the runners at the 2024 Grantchester Charity Runs, supporting Maggie’s Centre Cambridge and the Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT).
The 10k rapidly became a two-way battle between Noah van Gael, a veteran of the Grantchester Charity Runs, and Tads Ciecierski-Holmes, with Noah holding on to his early lead.
Stephen Howard defied a significant age disadvantage to come home in third place despite having already run that morning!
The inclement weather didn’t hold back Vivian Rojas, winner of the ladies category ahead of a gallant Chiyomi Ishida, second, with Annie Wilson in third place.
In the 3k (chip timed this year), another Grantchester Charity Runs veteran, Jasper Van Gael, completed the family double by leading home Austin Pannell and Hari Jugdaohsingh.
In the ladies category, another GCR veteran Natalie Pannell took the honours ahead of Saffran Porter and Maya Wager.
Christie Marrian, one of the Grantchester Charity Runs organisers, said: “I was frankly astonished at the turnout given the continuous rain as forecast.
“What’s more, the runners actually looked cheerful negotiating a very challenging course.
“Equally soaked – and smiling – were our amazing on-course marshals from the Grantchester Cricket Club.
“It was great to see so many returning runners and there was a great atmosphere throughout the day. A good crowd gave our worthy prize-winners a cheer to close the 15th annual Grantchester Charity Runs.
“We look forward to less rain at the next on Sunday, 28 September, 2025, details at Grantchester10k.org.”
