In pictures: Something for everyone as Eddington hosts its first carnival
The very first Eddington Carnival, “a celebration of community and culture”, was held over the weekend (13-14 September) on the cricket pitch.
The space played host to family-friendly activities, live entertainment, fitness and wellbeing sessions, and food and drink.
There was something for everyone, from interactive zones and funfair rides to Lego building and crafting stations, from a community sandpit to kite-making and a football kick-zone.
The Cambridge Pentacle Magic Club also kept the visitors entertained.
Biky Wan, one of the organisers – and the PR and marketing manager at West & North West Cambridge developments at the University of Cambridge – said: “We were thrilled to host the Eddington Carnival at the weekend, which was a brilliant celebration of community and culture.
“Held at the Eddington cricket pitch, approximately 3,000 visitors joined us for the two-day event.
“Highlights included the Buckleton Belly Dance School (alongside their audience participation), the Sanskruti Cambridge Indian dance group, as well as music from Cores Do Samba, bringing Brazilian melodies that got everyone dancing, Mr Griff, a Cambridge based-funk group, and a beautiful concert by the inter-generational Eddington Community Orchestra at Storey’s Field Centre to close the event.”
Biky added: “We’re delighted so many of our residents and local businesses featured, including a private chef providing pasta workshops, a hobbyist creating a camera obscura, our regular community café by New Life Church providing free tea and cake, and the tenacious OptiMum who conducted her pilates class in the rain!”
The carnival marked the 10-year anniversary of Eddington as a community, and the University of Cambridge is preparing a new outline planning application for future phases of development.
The university funded the carnival, while event sponsorship came from its housing developers including the Hill Group, Present Made and Durkan Homes.
