In pictures: Wonder of Wood Fair at Burwash Manor keeps on ‘driving forward’
The one-of-its-kind annual event that is Cambridge’s Wonder of Wood Fair – a weekend of crafts, nature and family fun – returned to Burwash Manor on 13-14 September.
Organised by Tim and Bex Saunders of Foxcotte & WonderWood and Duncan Dodds of Artisan Structures, the fair, which was being held for the seventh time, has become a much-loved local gathering, drawing thousands of visitors each year.
Duncan said: “It was a massive success. Across the board, all of the stallholders that I spoke to said that they had an incredible turnout, an incredible buzz – nothing but good feedback from everybody they spoke to.
“It may not have broken records, but it definitely feels like one of the best years we’ve ever had.
“We find ourselves enjoying it more and more every year because it’s all second nature to us now.
“It means that we can focus more on the finer details and fine-tuning it and making sure that we’re improving it each year, and we’re really passionate about trying to make sure that we’re driving forwards and keeping it fresh with new ideas.”
Visitors were able to get hands-on with a variety of crafts, led by stallholders, or watch local makers demonstrating their skills.
Stalls were filled with handmade wooden items and there was a chance to climb trees, learn survival skills, build a den or listen to stories from a storyteller.
Folk musicians also entertained the crowd.
Duncan added: “What I’m noticing personally is that everybody just really appreciates us doing it, because it means so much to them – and their kids are growing up with it.
“It’s an event that they can rely on to come back to every year and they know what they’re going to get.”
