Mayor’s Day Out celebrates 40th anniversary
The Mayor’s Day Out, one of Cambridge’s longest-standing traditions, is celebrating 40 years.
Thousands of the city’s senior citizens have enjoyed the annual seaside day trip in August, provided by Cambridge City Council. This year’s destination will be Great Yarmouth on Wednesday, 13 August.
Cllr Antoinette Nestor, cabinet lead for culture, economy and skills, said: “What a wonderful milestone for this much-loved annual outing as it enters its fifth decade.
“Over the past 40 years, thousands of older residents have enjoyed a special day by the sea – for many, it’s been their only chance to do so.
“The city council has proudly supported the trip since it first began in 1985, founded by mayor John Woodhouse, and we look forward to many more years of making these cherished memories possible.”
Enjoy a day out at the seaside and the attractions of Great Yarmouth – all for just £10, which includes return coach travel, with several convenient pick-up and drop-off points.
Tickets are on sale from now until 4 July from camcityevents.co.uk, by calling 01223 357851, and from the ticket office in Wheeler Street.
