Meet Spider-Man, Thor, Captain Marvel and Black Panther at Cambridge shopping centres

Spider-Man, Captain America and Thor are among the superheroes who have assembled at Cambridge shopping centres for children to marvel at this Easter. They have been joined by Yoda, Darth Maul, the droid BB-8 and t earsome Darth Vader.

The figures can be found at the Grand Arcade and Lion Yard Shopping Centre, where they form a free Superheroes Trail on which youngsters can collect superpower stickers from specific shops.

Youngsters (of all ages) have until April 18 to capture selfies with the likes of Black Panther and Captain Marvel. And those who visited on the opening weekend (April 2-3) were treated to the sight of Batman and the Batmobile – complete with flames coming out the back – from the 1989 Batman film starring Michael Keaton.

Julie Kervadec, marketing manager at the Grand Arcade, said: “It was very busy over the weekend. Already, lots of kids have dressed up as their favourite characters and it’s caused a good buzz on social media as well. People have posted their own pictures too, so it’s been very good.”

The Batmobile has now been driven away – no doubt to go and fight crime somewhere – but there are plenty more joining the statues in the coming days.

“Last weekend (April 9-10), we had other cosplay artists coming to the centre – Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Captain America, Darth Vadar and Chewbacca,” Julie said. “We also had a free facepainting stall for kids. We have a total of 13 statues and shelves next to them where we present some emblematic items from the movies.

“We have one for Batman and one for Star Wars, and you can see objects signed by the actors or by the creators of Batman – and also original DC comic books.” Meanwhile, a Sensory Cave is also on offer at the Grand Arcade.
