Restaurant and bar owners, La Raza took on the leasehold of 6 Rose Crescent during lockdown and have remodelled the old Kiehl’s shop into a Spanish deli, café and bar called Pinch, taking its name from ‘pinxtos’ (or pinchos), small tapas-style foods originating from northern Spain.

Pinch will be serving Spanish hot and cold pinchos to eat in or take away. Pete Rawlings, head of operations at La Raza, said: “The Pinch menu is freshly prepared each day by our sister venue La Raza next door. It will change through the seasons but will always include around five hot and five cold dishes.

“So far, hot dishes have included Spanish meatballs, slow-cooked pigs cheeks in sherry and various different flavoured croquetas. Cold dishes have included spinach, piquillo pepper and feta tortilla, simple serrano ham and Manchego cheese and crab stuffed piquillo peppers. A range of vegan options are also available.”

Charlie Anderson, owner of La Raza, Ta Bouche and Pinch, added: “Pinchos are traditionally served up as small dishes usually on bread and layered with a skewer holding it all together. The food is ideally enjoyed with a glass of wine or sherry. And of course, we have an enticing selection of speciality house and premium Spanish wines and sherries to choose from.”

While most of what is on offer is of Spanish origin, the team at Pinch has also chosen to serve coffee from local rotisserie Hot Numbers. “Hot Numbers is well known in Cambridge and its coffee is excellent,” says Charlie. “We wanted to work with local businesses where we could and our relationship with Simon Fraser of Hot Numbers extends back nearly 20 years as he was our first DJ at La Raza!”

The deli section of the café boasts plenty of Spanish specialities available to buy, including paella rice, turron, churros mix, Spanish sauces, olive oils and vinegars, as well as cured meats, cheeses and olives. There is also an extensive selection of packed foods ideal for stocking fillers.
