Newmarket Nights attracts top music acts to the home of British racing
Once again, Newmarket racecourse is to welcome some of the biggest and brightest acts from the world of popular music to the home of British horse racing this summer, as the Jockey Club Live stages its annual Newmarket Nights series of concerts.

The Jockey Club is the largest commercial group in British horse racing and owns 15 leading racecourses around the UK, including Aintree, Cheltenham, Epsom and Newmarket’s Rowley Mile and July Course, considered the global headquarters of flat racing.
Little Mix
Kicking off the proceedings music-wise on June 23 is Little Mix, arguably the biggest girl band in the world. The fun-loving foursome put on a standout performance at last summer’s event, playing popular hits such as Move and Wings.
Formed in 2011 on the eighth series of The X Factor, Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall have established themselves as one of Britain’s top pop acts, selling more than seven million records.
Expect to hear songs from the four albums they’ve put out thus far – the most recent of which is the critically acclaimed Glory Days from 2016.
The Jacksons
Next up, on June 30, is a legendary band of brothers that needs no introduction. The Jacksons not only gave the world such timeless classics as I Want You Back, I’ll Be There and ABC, they also launched the career of the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson.
Originally formed as The Jackson 5, brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon will be visiting Newmarket as they celebrate an incredible 50 years in the business – an outstanding career that has seen them sell more than 200 million records during their time with the iconic Motown label.
As well as the hits mentioned above, expect to hear songs from their disco-heavy period of the mid to late 1970s, including Never Can Say Goodbye, Show You the Way to Go and Dancing Machine.
Culture Club
Three weeks later, on July 21, we have Culture Club, an award-winning British quartet led by the charismatic Boy George, who lit up the charts in the 1980s with enduringly popular hits such as Karma Chameleon, Do You Really Want to Hurt Me and Time (Clock of the Heart). Selling over 50 million records worldwide, the band scored seven straight top 10 hits in the UK and nine top 10 singles in the US. Their awards included the 1984 Brit Award for Best British Group and Best British Single for Karma Chameleon. Culture Club will be performing at three racecourses this July: Epsom Downs, Newmarket and Haydock Park.
James
Since forming in Manchester in 1982, English rockers James have become one of the most influential British indie bands. They have released 14 studio albums in their stellar 35-year career, selling 13 million albums worldwide. Their most successful period to date was the 1990s, the decade that saw songs such as Sit Down, Laid and She’s A Star make an impact on the charts. Last year their latest studio album, Girl at the End Of The World, went straight in at number two in the UK album charts and received critical acclaim.
Chase & Status
Continuing the success of last year’s DJ night, which saw a blistering headline set from Mark Ronson, Chase & Status will be bringing their unique brand of drum ‘n’ bass to Newmarket on August 11. The duo have sold over 3.5million records and their biggest hits include Blind Faith, Count on Me and End Credits. With an impressive live show, Chase (Saul Milton) & Status (Will Kennard) have toured and performed all over the world, including headlining festival stages at Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds and Global Gathering.
Olly Murs
Essex-born Olly, who rose to prominence after finishing runner up on The X Factor in 2009, has gone on to become one of the most successful talent competition contestants ever, with four number one albums to his name. His songs of note include Please Don’t Let Me Go, Heart Skips a Beat and Troublemaker, and his most recent LP, 24 Hrs, was another chart-topper. Expect to hear hit after hit when he graces the Newmarket stage on August 18.
Jess Glynne
First entering the public consciousness as the vocalist on Clean Bandit’s Grammy award-winning number one, Rather Be, Londoner Jess Glynne has gone on to become one of the biggest breakthrough acts of recent years. Her debut album, I Cry When I Laugh, reached number one and has since turned triple platinum in the UK. Her hits include Hold My Hand, Don’t Be So Hard on Yourself and Take Me Home. Expect to hear all these and more at Newmarket on August 26.
Under-fives are admitted free of charge and children aged five to 15 can apply for a reduced-priced entry ticket and accompanying wristband. However, these are available only when purchasing a full-priced adult ticket, with a maximum of two children per adult. Once the allocation has been reached, full ticket prices apply. Any person aged 16 and above will need to purchase a full-priced entry ticket. You must be 18 or above to escort anyone under 16.
