Queen Extravaganza treats Cambridge to all the hits and more
This official tribute act to Queen was created by Brian May and Roger Taylor.
I must admit, I didn’t know what to expect ahead of the show at the Corn Exchange on Saturday, November 17. Would it just be the songs, or would there be an element of storytelling?
In the end it was the former – and it was a highly entertaining show, as five extremely talented musicians ran through a selection of the band’s numerous hits.
A truly international band, the quintet consisted of two Americans, a Canadian, a Brit and a Brazilian on vocals.
The Queen Extravaganza – designed to enable fans, old and new, to celebrate the music of Queen – included all the songs any fan of the group could want to hear – Bohemian Rhapsody, Another One Bites the Dust, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Under Pressure, Killer Queen, etc.
It was a delight to see the hands raised aloft in the crowd on Radio Gaga, These Are the Days of Our Lives was brilliantly sung by the drummer, who had an outstanding voice – as did the lead singer – and Somebody to Love was dedicated to the audience for helping to “keep the band’s legacy alive.”
This tour has been the outfit’s sixth visit to the UK and I have no doubt they’ll be back to once again enthrall and captivate.
