Ralph McTell to headline opening day of 2024 Cambridge Folk Festival
A stalwart of the British acoustic music scene for more than 50 years, Ralph McTell is known for his storytelling and virtuoso guitar style.
Primarily a prolific and gifted songwriter, the musician made his debut in 1968 with the album Eight Frames a Second and in 1974 the release of his signature song Streets of London earned him an Ivor Novello Award.
In 2019, he put out his latest studio album, Hill of Beans, and 22 years ago, in 2002, he was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
McTell’s career has spanned street busking across Europe, to sold-out shows at the Royal Albert Hall, Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House.
He will be performing on Stage 2 on the opening day of the Cambridge Folk Festival (Thursday, 25 July). The event, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, runs until Sunday (28 July).
